HIGHLAND MEMORY GARDENS CEMETERY’S Board of Directors and Staff invite you to attend our annual Memorial Day Celebration at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30, in front of the Tower of Memories, 1 NE 60th Ave. Des Moines.

This service is jointly sponsored by the Highland Park American Legion Post 374 and Highland Memory Gardens and includes the presentation of Colors, the reading of names of veterans buried at HMG since Memorial Day, 2021, a gun salute and taps.

Our celebration will begin this year with the Iowa Patriot Guard Riders entering the cemetery on their motorcycles, weather permitting, and then lining our main drive with their members holding large American flags.

Our “Avenue of Flags” is a dramatic display of 5-ft by 9 ½-ft ceremonial veteran burial flags, placed every 25-feet on both sides of the cemetery streets extending more than two miles and will be flying from Saturday morning until Monday afternoon. In addition, we honor our 3500+ known veterans with individual flags marking each their graves, which are lovingly placed by cemetery staff and volunteers.

Bring your lawn chairs Monday morning – refreshments will be served following our program.

See you at the Tower!
