Volunteers Help Beautify Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery
Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery has been promoted as the most beautiful Cemetery in the Des Moines area with beautiful flower gardens, rows of lilac borders, viburnum hedges and a variety of trees. A group of dedicated volunteers play a key role in keeping the flower beds looking nice throughout the year.
The Cemetery has 23 major Gardens — such as Prayer, Reverence, Tower, etc. — that cover 40 acres adjacent to 2nd Ave. & 1 N. 60th Ave. in NE Des Moines — about two miles south of Ankeny on Hwy. 415. Within most of the Garden areas are flower beds or borders that help feature the Garden. These flower beds have daffodils, tulips, sedums, shrub roses, daylilies, hostas, grasses and a variety of perennials. Annual flowers such as petunia, blue salvia and celosia are planted in mid-May if front of the Office and Tower.
Volunteers typically work two to three hours per week during the summer from 9 to 11:00 a.m. When flower beds need to be monitored for planting, weeding and dead heading.
If you would like to volunteer and join this loyal group of Volunteers, please contact the Cemetery Office at 515-289-2230.
