For Our Veterans
Honor Our Vets
We are very proud of the men and women who have served in the Armed Services of the United States. We feel honored to be entrusted to serve as the final resting place for these brave individuals.
At the time of interment/inurnment, each veteran's grave will be marked with a red, white and blue silk floral arrangement with an American flag as a token of our gratitude for their service to our Country.
Memorial Day weekend is always a special time. All private drives inside Cemetery Gardens are lined every 22 feet with over 400 large ceremonial burial flags. Each flag had been presented to the family of a Veteran, and the family has donated their Veteran's flag to the cemetery so it would be flown on this very important day. If you look closely, each flag has the name of the Veteran stenciled on the flag's binding. During the year the flags are lovingly stored by the Highland Park Post of the American Legion. The flags are flown from Saturday morning until 5:00 p.m. on Monday of Memorial Day.
In addition, the grave of each veteran buried at HMG is marked with a small flag. As of May 2011, over 3100 veterans are buried at HMG. Hundreds of flags flying over our beautiful landscape is indeed an impressive sight to see.
Jointly sponsored by the Highland Park Post of the American Legion and Highland Memory Gardens, the Annual Memorial Day service is held to honor our past and current Veterans. The service begins on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. with a special military ceremony which includes the reading of the names of the Veterans buried at Highland Memory Gardens since the previous Memorial Day.
